Supplies for a patriotic Decor ribbon wall hanger

materials:

  • 1 wooden dowel (about 18–24″ long)
  • Blue patterned fabric (roughly 9″x9″)
  • Assorted red, white, and cream ribbon or fabric strips
  • Scissors
  • Hot glue gun or fabric glue
  • Twine, string, or leather cord for hanging
  • Optional: ruler or rotary cutter for cleaner edges

How to make your own DIY patriotic Decor

1. Cut Your Fabric Strips.

Start by cutting your red, white, and cream fabrics into strips. You can make them anywhere from 1″ to 2″ wide and about 24–36″ long, depending on how tall you want your hanging to be. A mix of textures, patterns, and widths gives it more charm!

2. Prep the Blue “Star” Section

Take your blue patterned fabric and cut it into a square. This will be the upper left section of your flag. You don’t need real stars—just a navy background or simple geometric print works beautifully.

3. Attach the Blue Section

Using hot glue or fabric glue, attach the blue square to the top left section of your dowel. Wrap the edge of the fabric slightly around the dowel and glue it in place so it stays secure.

4. Tie On Your Fabric Strips

Now for the fun part! Start tying your red, white, and cream strips onto the dowel, working from left to right. Alternate colors for a flag-like look. Push them close together so it looks full and flowing.

5. Add Your Hanger

Tie a piece of twine, string, or leather cord to both ends of your dowel to create a simple hanger. Adjust the length to fit your space.

6. Hang It Up and Celebrate! be proud

Once everything is dry and secure, hang your creation on the wall and admire your work! It’s perfect over a mantle, on a front door, or in any space that could use a bit of patriotic personality.
