How to MAKE YOUR DIY CLAY NAME SIGNS

1. PLAN YOUR LETTERS

Start by deciding on the name or word you want to display. I recommend sketching each letter on paper or printing out templates to use as guides. This makes shaping the clay easier and ensures all letters are evenly sized.

2. ROLL OUT THE CLAY

Take a portion of your air-dry clay and roll it out into a cylinder/snake shape to your desired thickness. Keep the thickness consistent so your letters dry evenly.

3. Shape your letters

Using your clay sculpting tools or your hands, carefully form each letter. You can use a template if you’d like, but I just did it freehand. Don’t worry about perfection — small variations give your DIY clay name sign charm and personality!

Tip: Smooth the edges with your fingers or a little water to prevent cracks as it dries.

4. LET THE CLAY DRY

Air-dry clay usually takes 24–48 hours to fully harden, depending on thickness. Lay your letters flat and let them dry completely before moving on to painting.

5. PAINT YOUR LETTERS

Now comes the fun part! Paint your letters in your desired colors. You can do solid colors, patterns, or even paint each letter differently! Allow the paint to fully dry before handling.

6. seal for durability

If you want your letters to last longer — especially in a bathroom where moisture can be an issue — apply a clear clay sealant over each letter. This also gives them a nice polished finish.

7. Display Your DIY Clay Name Sign

Once everything is dry, it’s time to put your letters up! I attached mine directly to the wall using E6000 glue, which holds securely and works great on bathroom walls. If you prefer a less permanent option, Command strips are perfect and let you reposition the letters without damaging the wall.

You can also get creative — attach them to a backing board for a framed look, or mount them on a shelf for a 3D display. The finished result adds a personalized touch that brightens up any room!
